Everyone loves matching, right!?! And if you're like me wearing the minimum goes a long way. I absolutely hate when people throw on a bunch of pieces and call it fashion & style. Wearing too much will just make you look like you're trying to hard and most likely you will look ridiculous! Even though it is nice not looking like that you sometimes have to take risks. Have you ever mixed prints, fabrics, or textures? If you have- wasn't it liberating. Didn't you feel fashion forward. The most popular mixture is leather and lace...it's different but pretty safe, right? Well if you are not following me...today I will give you inspiration on how to mix different prints and fabrics that just some how look great! They aren't really supposed to look good but for some reason they just work! And remember, I link each and every item in my posts...so if you feel inspired and want to purchase the look simply click on the thumbnails below each collection and you will be forwarded to the site where you can buy!
So let's get started. For the first collection I'm going to way out there. DOTS ON DOTS. For this look I've paired a polka dot blouse, a leopard skirt, black patent leather pumps and for the accessories I added some black and gold earrings and ring, and finally a clutch that ties the entire look together with the gold, pale orange, and black handle. The orange gives this look a pop of color! You must agree- these pieces are so random but for some reason it just works!

This look focuses on pairing conflicting styles. A sweat shirt which you normally wear while working out or lounging around the house; paired with a button up shirt and some pastel skinny jeans. I've also added some nude platform pumps and a quilted bag. The gray sweatshirt and the silver chain on the purse moved me to pair this look with some silver jewelry. This look is definitely an example of mixing fabrics and styles!
The object of this look is to play with leopard, stripes, and a bold color. I started with dark skinny jeans and added a striped top. The bold purple trench coat adds some drama as well as the animal print pumps. The pumps inspired me to add the clutch which is leather and kinda has a snake skin touch to it. The clutch also has soft gold hardware so I added some interesting earrings, a ring, and a bracelet cuff.
This examples shows us how you can pair different prints, textures and colors. I started with the leather leopard platform pumps. From there I added some leather pants. I then found this interesting top which has the black, green fabric with gold hardware as well as the asymmetric hemline. I wanted to add a pop of color by adding the red leather envelope clutch with gold hardware. I also pulled red into this look by pairing the gold ring with a red stone. And finally check out the earrings- look at the striping! Again...crazy random pieces but it definitely comes together with perfection!
This has to be one of my favorite looks. I went crazy on this one. It started with the striped top. I then found a striped belt, orange skinny jeans, a fur vest (random, right!?!), a brown on brown color block clutch, and some color block platform pumps. This is definitely an example of mixing prints, textures, and fabrics. If we go down the list we have fur, stripes, browns, orange, and silver. All these items are all over the place but it comes together somehow.
Mixing floral prints & leather is also very interesting and will take your style to new levels. It's a perfect combination of naughty & nice. Similar to leather and lace. For this look I've added a flirty floral top and I love the waist line on this top; I paired it with a leather skirt- which you can add leather shorts as well; I pulled colors from the floral top for the pumps- which are a soft purple. The pumps are suede which gives our look another texture. For the clutch I pulled an additional color from the top. This clutch also had an interesting silver closure which inspired me to add silver earrings and a bracelet. I used really precise shapes for these pieces as well to match the triangular closure on the clutch.
In the fashion world this combo is called The Power Trio. Typically red, black leather, and tweed are very complimentary. But I decided to switch it up- I've added a bold purple. You can add pretty much any bold color to this equation and it will look so good. For this look I found an awesome cropped tweed blazer, a purple turtle neck, some leather panel leggings, black on black platform pumps, leather gloves, sunglasses, and finally the black and white color block bag. I love the pop of black and white. It makes it more interesting right!?!
Adding a knit sweater- solid or with print with some really bright bottoms are very complementary. For this look I found an interesting white sweater which is pretty plain but if you look closely there are designs within in the sweater. Adding a printed sweater would be more bold but for this idea the white sweater works. I added these bold but pale skinny jeans and found a perfect clutch which has the same yellow. I pulled more colors from the clutch which lead me to add black ankle booties (with gold hardware) and a black, white & gold bracelet.
Wow...that was interesting, right!?! I hope this long post has inspired you to think outside the box. Yes these looks were very bold but they are also very stylish. The object of the game is to look stylish not ridiculous! Please give me lots of feedback and also if you have some other ideas on how to mix prints, fabrics, and textures- let us know.
