Luxe Layering

I know everyone loves to match when it comes to fashion but remember this- OPPOSITES ATTRACT! Layering unexpected colors, prints, and fabrics takes your style to new levels. A perfect combination of layering is a basic tee, oversized knit sweater or blazer, print scarf, and chunky jewelry-with layering remember everything should balance out so because you would be wearing an oversized sweater or blazer you should wear a pencil skirt, leggings, or straight legged trouser. Another popular layering technique is to wear a belt over top of a coat, jacket, or sweater! Wearing more than one shirt is also layering- especially if you wear a long sleeve under a shorter sleeve shirt. You can be very creative with this technique- the sky's the limit. Have fun with it.

Here are a few looks I've created using layering. Follow the arrows to see what goes on top of what.

This is a simple layering technique. Here I have a white blouse with black leggings and booties. I've added a bright blue cardigan and put a black belt on top of it. And finally, a black scarf to finish! To be more creative with this look you can substitute the solid colors for prints- that make things more interesting! For example instead of a white blouse add a polka dot blouse.

This is a step up from the previous example. The piece I centered on is the printed scarf. I used the purple, red, turquoise, gold, and black through the entire outfit. Also Notice I played with the textures- the cotton sweater with the twead shorts and the leather bag and shoes. Red and purple look absolutely stunning together- royal colors. This is an odd combination but it looks fierce, doesn't it?

Another layering technique is with jewelry! In this exampled the clothing is simple so I wanted to get big bulky jewelry with bright colors. Having multiple necklaces, bangles, and rings makes this simple look pop. Not to mention the blue suede shoes! They are fab!

There are endless ways to layering your clothing. These are just a few and I sincerely hope they inspire you to create your own looks. Don't think you can throw on any and everything to master this technique. Try it out, if it doesn't look right take it off and try something else. To me fashion is a sport- practice makes perfect!
